Constipation and Flaxseeds/Linseeds

Research shows that flaxseeds/linseeds can help ease constipation and they are a relatively easy and cheap method to do so.

These can be bought from most supermarkets and health food shops (usually in pouches).

An added bonus is that they are also a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids and a great source of fibre. Fibre is regarded as the “fertilizer” for the gut and your gut bugs love it!

These little seeds can be taken whole or ground.

So why not give it a go?

Whether you have IBS or experience frequent bouts of constipation, trial the following:

Week 1, start with a half a tbsp per day and monitor your reaction.

Week 2, try to increase to 1 tbsp per day and monitor your reaction.

Week 3 and 4, try to increase to 2 tbsps per day and monitor your reaction.

An easy way to eat these seeds is to add them to a yogurt, cereal or a smoothie.

It is also important to have 150mls of water alongside your snack to allow the seeds to form a gel with the water for them to be effective in helping to treat constipation.

Wishing you good gut health!
