Coughs and sneezes spread diseases, so don’t forget your vitamineezes!

The season of coughs and colds has arrived and it is only a question of time before many of us fall victim to one virus or another.
A well functioning immune system is really important to help fight off these bugs, and the food we eat is an essential ingredient to keeping the system in tip top condition.
Keep up with your five fruit and vegetables each day. They provide the vitamins and minerals for health. Protein is really important too. Milk is an excellent immune boosting food as it contains protein, vitamins and minerals.
If you eat a good balanced diet as shown on the eatwell guide  to be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-eatwell-guide  you should not need to take extra vitamins and minerals as supplements, except vitamin D which is important to take during the winter months. Just 10 micrograms though, we don’t need any more than that.
If you are unfortunate enough to pick up a cold, then you are more likely to recover from it quicker if you are eating well.
And then we need to make sure that we wash our hands really well when we have been out to the shops or in other public places, as it is well  known that more coughs and cold germs are spread through touch than in any other ways. The advice is to wash our hands for as long as it takes to sing happy birthday twice.
Dear readers, arm yourselves with good nutrition every day, keep those bugs at bay.
