Season’s greetings to all, I hope you will have a splendid day, eating drinking and making merry.
Have a great day but remember there is no law that requires us to eat and drink ourselves silly for the 12 days of Christmas.
We can all indulge over the festive season and many of us will then join a slimming club and a gym to work off the extra pounds gained.
Frequent weight gain and loss is not good for our bodies either. There is evidence that yo yo dieting or weight cycling as science describes it, which is losing weight and regaining it , can increase the risk of stroke and heart attacks.
One study showed that a loss and subsequent gain of more than 8.5 lbs resulted in significant risks.
It is much better not to gain weight at all, or to lose weight and keep it off permanently and that means learning about healthy balanced diet. The eatwell guide is the advice we should heed.
So, we should eat a balanced diet and be active every day.
We can still eat well and aim for 5 fruit and veg. Brussels sprouts and carrots, oranges and nuts, it wouldn’t be Christmas without them.
But just for today, pass the quality street and mince pies and I promise I will walk the calories off over the next few days.
