I am an HCPC registered dietitian with over 13 years experience, having worked in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
In South Africa, I started out in general medicine (Adults) and peadiatric care gaining experiences in amongst others growth monitoring, HIV (Peadiatrics & Adults) and Adult oncology. This was done both in an outpatient and inpatient setting.
I moved to the UK and started my work in Royal Papworth Hospital as a respiratory specialist dietitian covering adult patients with complex weaning from ventilation, motor neuron disease, duchennes muscular dystrophy and patients needing nutrition support during non invasive ventilation.
I am the lead dietitian for our Adult Ataxia Telangiectasia Nationally commissioned service and as part of my role also support Cystic fibrosis, transplant, Pulmonary Hypertension and COPD patients as part of cross cover.
During the years I have also covered various staff training sessions, Cardiac Rehab patient education sessions and Cardiothoracic adult wards.
As part of my very interesting role I come across patients with either very high or very low body mass indexes, ensuring that my approach always remains tailored to the person in front of me. But I strongly believe in an evidence based approach, so this will always be my starting point for any project/patient plan.
Being the Social Media Officer of the BDA NeuroSciences Specialist Group really helps me to keep up to date with the latest discussions and evidence, as well as being part of an amazing committee. Due to my experience with this I feel equipped in taking on projects like writing nutrition related articles, or working with other dietitians to create/update clinical guidelines on specific topics within my expertise.
