Profile for Elaine Allerton, BDA Registered Dietitian

I’m a friendly and empathetic Registered Dietitian, located on the Surrey/Sussex borders.  Alongside my private practice and freelance work, I have a part time contract with the NHS, specialising in Diabetes. I translate evidence-based nutritional science… holistically with a healthy dose of pragmatism so that any dietary changes suggested will be easy for you to fit into your lifestyle… if it’s not practical and sustainable, it’s not going to work for you, is it? So whether it’s weight loss, muscle gain, improving IBS symptoms, improving blood glucose levels and reducing insulin resistance, managing energy levels or supporting a healthy digestive system, I’ll help you to understand how your diet affects your wellbeing. I’ve wide-ranging experience of all areas of nutrition and dietetics, but my particular areas of specialism include: weight management support and advice following bariatric surgery diabetes cardiovascular health gastrointestinal/digestive disorders IBS (including the FODMAP approach) I offer 1-2-1 consultations in clinic (town centre location: Guildford, Surrey), or I can come to see you in the comfort of your own home/office if you prefer (there may be an additional fee depending on your location), or I can offer Skype/FaceTime consultations.  Following a complimentary initial telephone chat, if I feel I am not the right nutritional expert for you, I’ll signpost you to one of my specialist dietetic peers. As a media spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association, I provide quotes to journalists and contribute to radio and television programmes (Channel 4: Food Unwrapped, ITV: Save Money Good Health); giving professional evidence-based comment on nutrition news stories, translating nutrition research into meaningful messages, aiming to clarify “nutri-facts” from “nutri-fiction”. I’m also available for teaching sessions or workshops, and any other type of consultancy work, including recipe / menu analysis and article writing.
