I am a professional dietitian who provides evidence based nutrition and dietetic plans and advice to help treat or prevent disease for you and your family.
I have 19 years experience as a dietitian in total 10 working with adults and a further 9 years as a paediatric specialist. I provide you and your family with dietary solutions that fit you or your child’s needs. I have particular interest in seeing children or adults with allergies and intolerance’s (specifically children with cow’s milk protein allergy), functional gut problems such as IBS, constipation or diarrhoea, Coeliac Disease, children with Type 1 Diabetes, fussy eaters and children with ASD. I also have an interest in women’s health and disease particularly those with infertility issues, who are menopausal or with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
We begin our time together by sitting down and having an informal, relaxed chat about you and your lifestyle. I take a detailed history of the complaint including symptoms and diet. This allows me to link your symptoms to certain foods you eat so I can assess the best possible dietary treatment. I will also weigh and measure you or your child as this allows me to see any changes in weight and measure outcomes. After the consultation you will receive an email detailing everything discussed plus and action plan and written literature. I may also write a letter to you or your child’s GP or consultant requesting further nutrition screening or simply to inform them of the outcome of our meeting.
I am a experienced Dietitian and Nutritionist. I did a Bsc Hons degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Robert Gordon University. Since then I have completed 2 masters modules in Paediatric Dietetics as well as further study in allergies, womens health including infertility and the menopause and a trained specialist dietitian to deliver the FODMAPS diet as a treatment for IBS.
I worked in the community as a health promotion dietitian for many years and during that period I devised, implemented and evaluated an obesity programme for 11-14 year old. Over the last 9 years I have specialised as a Paediatric Dietitian where I have worked with children with complex needs, tube feeds, Cystic Fibrosis, Type 1 Diabetes, cardiac conditions and the MCT diet for chylothorax, Coeliac Disease, allergies and intolerances, faltering growth, picky eaters and reflux.
I also have the privilege to work with the Northern Regional College as a Part Time Lecturer in their Btec National Diploma and Foundation Degree courses in Childcare, Early Years and Development, and Health and Social Care. I also teach catering and lifestyle skills in cooking. I also work as a Tutor for the University of Ulster on their online Farm to Fork Masters Module.
My speciality and passion lies mainly with treating children, particularly with cow’s milk allergy, feeding difficulties, reflux, picky eaters and Type 1 Diabetes. However I also love to treat adults and children with bowel problems, such as IBS, Coeliac Disease, constipation or diarrhoea and women with infertility issues and women who are going through the menopause or have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
I live with my husband and 5 year old son on a Farm outside Ballymena. We try to ensure that we eat well ourselves and use as much homegrown, homemade, wholesome food as is possible. However we also like chocolate, sweets and desserts so it’s safe to say we are pretty normal! I am a keen cook and have even produced my own range of healthy products which I sell at artisan and farmers markets in my spare time. I believe wholeheartedly that good food and nutrition, as well as a healthy balance is one of the most important aspects to preventing and treating disease. I have a real passion for helping people and you can be assured that I will try my best to help.
