My name is Pat Castle.
My clinical expertise is varied with experience in hospitals and in the community. I have been fortunate to have worked internationally, having my own practice in Hong Kong for 6 years. Since returning to the UK, my time is divided between working part time for the NHS and at my company ‘Core Nutrition Specialists’
After graduating as a dietitian, my reading around the subject probably began!… I read books about clinical nutrition, food, nutrition and mindful eating, physiology and metabolism, our fascinating digestive system and gut flora, diet trends, lifestyle coaching, counselling concepts and motivation techniques, as well as keeping up to date on the latest nutrition research.
My passion is supporting people to better health with sound nutrition… my specialism is in gastro. I am a keen puzzle solver and my approach regarding problems that arise along a patient’s digestive tract, is a puzzle that needs working out to provide manageable solutions such as the Low FODMAP diet in addition to my own management plans depending on the patient’s needs, symptoms and lifestyle.
As a person, I have a real interest in others…it is extremely important to me that my nutrition solutions and therapy is appropriate and manageable for my patient. I ensure that the quality time we spend together during a consultation will give my patient a firm understanding of why I am recommending a diet therapy, including strategies or new skills they need to reach their goal.
Aside from my clinical roles, I’ve have designed a health and nutrition curriculum for a school, created my own programs from family workbooks and activities, including educating their carers with practical sessions, I have presented small and large group sessions, including topical lunchtime presentations based at an International GP practice. I have lectured on childhood nutrition and behaviour, as well as contributed nutrition articles for international womens magazines. I made a soft toy digestive system for kids to offer them a more tactile experience – but the adults love it to.
Finally, I was one of the founding members of ‘Lantau Health and Wellness Expo’ that organised a public event on South Lantau in Hong Kong. This was to showcase and celebrate the therapists living on the Island, and to help publicise their businesses and to provide an holistic practice directory for the residents.
